Should I move to the East Village?
I currently live in a studio on the Upper East Side. It’s tiny and far from perfect, but it’s all mine. If I moved to the East Village, I would be much closer to school and in a much cooler location, but I would definitely need a roommate. My friend’s lease is up the same time as mine and she’s interested. Decisions, decisions…
Goals
I rarely indulge in New Years resolutions because (1) it seems like setting yourself up for failure, and (2) why wait to the New Year to start trying to achieve your goals? But this year, I am going to make two general goals for 2008. I am going to focus on two things: my body and my finances. I feel like I have my career and school under control (an A- and a B+ in my first two courses, thank...
Merry Christmas!
My favorite day of the year was basically perfect. I got some great presents, and the family enjoyed all the gifts I gave them. Just some highlights of the day: my father made an amazing standing rib roast with mashed potatoes for dinner. we drank two bottles of champagne among the four of us… by 11AM. I got the new bedding I wanted, all six seasons of The Sopranos, a few books, an...
Under Pressure...
So Danny is my boss. And we are probably among each other’s closest friends. Which makes our relationship a little complicated. Did I mention he’s married? Right. Our department is pretty small and the other people in it are huge slackers. HUGE. As in, they do no work. None. Danny and I work really hard and basically the other guys do more to screw us up than to actually help...
Crush
So a few months ago, I developed a minor crush on a guy I saw a few times, but never spoke to. I was bored, he was there and I kind of forgot about it. A few days ago, we connected through a mutual friend. This time, we actually talked. The more I know about him, the more I like. Crushes are fun — especially at the beginning, before reality has a chance to rear its ugly head!
There’s no such thing as a mistake. There are things you do and things...
– Unfaithful
So it’s not that I have a problem with texting per se. It’s really just that I think texting should be used for the same purpose as making an actual phone call — relaying information — but at a time when a phone call is impractical (in a loud, crowded bar, to give directions, a quick “i miss you,” etc.). I’m not a chatter. Unless you live far away and I...
Woke up at 9:30 to seven text messages. STOP THE...
DL (9.29PM): Ew it's sleeting. Come out?
JG1 (10.00PM): Hey, dinner this week? Let's talk later.
AB (11.48PM): I''/m wahbsted. Uuuu?<
JG2 (2.33AM): Down at Pizza 33 and they're playing your song!
*Danny* (4.05AM): Can't sleep. What are you up to?
DL (8.00AM): Just woke up. What's up?
SB (9.15AM): We're meeting at noon. Are you coming?
E-mails with him keep me sane.
Me: Joining “The Gambia” are “The Bahamas.”
"Danny": Apples to Oranges in terms of awesome-ness. If “The Gambia” were s-plural it would be a shell of its current self (which is what The Bahamas is).
Argh.
It’s currently 8:09 on Saturday night. I was invited to four holiday/birthday parties tonight. Instead of revelling in merriment at my absolute FAVORITE time of year, I am sitting on my couch, watching Cane and studying. I just ate more sushi than is really decent. My little Christmas tree is sparkling and beautiful though.
Don’t threaten me with love, baby. Let’s just go walking in the...
– Billie Holiday. One of my all-time favorites (the quote — not a huge jazz girl).

I have a lot going on in my life. I work 60-70 hours per week. I go to grad school at night. I have a pretty active social life. So here’s the problem. When I moved to New York, I didn’t know many people. Being a pretty outgoing person, I have created a great circle of friends who I love. One of them happens to be someone I work with who also lives very close to me. She’s...
